Where We Belong
This post “Where We Belong” is an excerpt from an article originally published in the August issue of Reclaimed Living magazine.
I believe a room should do more than look pretty. It should hold the shape of your real life. And carry your days.
In our bedroom, that means making space for four things: daily living, organization, beauty, and story. Each one matters. Daily living asks whether the room supports the way we actually move through it. Organization places our most used items within reach. Beauty creates the feeling we want to return to. And story gives the room a soul.
For me, this bedroom needed to feel moody, warm, and grounded. I built the palette around black, camel, cream, and a touch of nautral green, then layered in brown bottles, copper, and dark vintage art. The beauty is in the depth and contrast, but also in the way those pieces settle the room and make it feel quieter.

Our rooms also have to support how we live. My favorite “morning couch” sits here, and it is where I spend the first (and often the last) few minutes of my day. The simple habit matters just as much as the art on the ledge or the color of the bedding. Truly, a room begins to feel like home when it makes space for the life you want to live inside it. Every day.
